Dr. Spiegel was happy to be invited to present at the Annual Conference for Young Women Affected by Breast Cancer (C4YW) in Orlando, Florida, February 21-23, 2014. The meeting was jointly hosted by the Young Survival Coalition and Living Beyond Breast Cancer and is the only international conference dedicated to the critical issues of young women affected by breast cancer and those who care about them.
Dr. Spiegel presented “Autologous Free-Flap Methods of Reconstruction” with illustrations depicting the stages of nipple-sparing mastectomy with reconstruction and how the donor flap tissue replaces the tissue removed during mastectomy (by itself or with an accompanying tisue explander/implant). Her presentation and the conference as a whole went very well and was enjoyed by all attending. It was a great opportunity for Dr. Spiegel to reach a new young audience that may not have known about all their reconstruction options when faced with breast cancer.
For women who were diagnosed in their 40’s or younger in the Houston area, the local Young Survival Coalition – Face 2 Face Network is a good way to meet other young women and share experiences. Join them and find more resources and new friends.
