Recently, some colleagues and I had an amazing opportunity thanks to Dr. Spiegel. We attended the 15th International Course of Perforator Flaps in New York City. An added bonus was getting in some sight-seeing time as well. The empire state building was very impressive in person!
Carra, Heike, and I are OR Nurses at Houston Methodist Hospital (HMH) with a combined 65 years of experience and this was truly an educational experience of a lifetime. Dr. Spiegel’s passion for education allowed us the chance to witness the latest technology in reconstructive surgery including collaboration of surgeons from around the world!
The highlight of the conference was observing live surgeries through video conference from a conference center across town from the hospital. Questions were asked and explanations of the procedure were given in real time during the surgeries. Thanks to Dr. Spiegel, I was granted the privilege to actually go to NYU Hospital and observe the surgery she was performing with Dr. Mihaye Choi from New York University. Since my whole career has been at Houston Methodist, it was very exciting to see how another hospital functions. The nurses and staff at NYU made this a wonderful experience as well.
We can’t thank you enough, Dr. Spiegel. This was an experience we will never forget! The knowledge we gained will be implemented as we continue to improve the care we give our patients at Houston Methodist Hospital.
